A MOVE

In May 2018, we made a career jump. We resigned from a large-size Czech law firm and set up our own company. Located in the City of Prague, we provide complex legal services to domestic and international entities in the area of finance in order to help them to develop their activities in the Czech Republic and to maintain legal and regulatory risk they are facing.

AN APPROACH

We know that the modern era of financial services is overly regulated and technologically disrupted. We built our firm to deliver the highest quality legal work and services in a modern, responsive and practical way in order to meet the clients’ business objectives.

Our aim is to provide our clients with the possibility to maintain legal and regulatory risk in the most efficient way as possible. We are able to provide certain outsourced compliance and regulatory services according to the client’s needs when this is needed. We always take into account our insight into business matters of our client based on our long-term experience with the financial services industry. Our pricing is transparent, and we use the fixed-fee project-based billing whenever feasible.

THE TEAM

JAN ŠOVAR
Partner

Jan Šovar is an attorney-at-law and the co-founder of FINREG PARTNERS law firm. He focuses on the regulation of the financial sector, securities, FinTech, blockchain and STO, payment and banking services, investment services, investment funds and asset management.

Before FINREG PARTNERS he worked for one of the biggest Czech law firms Kocián Šolc Balaštík (KSB) and also for the predecessor of ESMA in Paris and for Deutsche Bank in London. For many years he also led the Czech capital markets legislation at the Ministry of Finance where he supervised the preparation of key legislative proposals in the area of capital markets (particularly the Czech Management Companies and Investment Funds Act and the legislation on bonds issuance).

Jan is a well-known author of many important legal publications, including the only up-to-date commentary on Czech Management Companies and Investment Funds Act, commentary on the Capital Market Undertakings Act or the best-selling commentary on the Civil Code. Apart from other lectures and presentations in the Czech Republic and abroad, he also runs seminars and other lectures at Czech law schools with respect to blockchain, cryptocurrencies, FinTech and other related matters.

ONDŘEJ MIKULA
Partner

Ondřej Mikula is an attorney-at-law and the co-founder of FINREG PARTNERS law firm. He is specialized in the regulation of financial and investment services, FinTech, AML/CFT, blockchain and STO, banking and finance, capital markets, including issues of notes and other securities, corporate law and M&A.

Before founding FINREG PARTNERS he worked in one of the biggest Czech law firms Kocián Šolc Balaštík (KSB), where he advised Czech and international clients in respect of domestic or cross-border issues of bonds and other (hybrid) financial instruments as well as large loan transactions and M&A. He also participated on the implementation of key pieces of financial regulation (particularly MiFID II or MCD) at Czech banks and other financial markets participants.

ANDREJ HENŽEL
Compliance specialist

Andrej Henžel is a lawyer and compliance specialist at FINREG PARTNERS law firm. He focuses on legal advisory services in respect of investment services, payments, digitalisation of financial services and data protection (he holds the international certification CIPP/E). Legal services, which Andrej provides, include also compliance services for financial institutions and fintech startups in respect of the relevant regulations (in particular MiFID II, EMIR, MAR, AML, IDD, PSD2 and GDPR).

Andrej has extensive experience in the area of financial markets regulation and compliance risk management. Before joining FINREG PARTNERS he worked at PwC and Deloitte. Furthermore he has long-term experience from the banking sector. He worked as a lawyer and compliance specialist at Fio bank and UniCredit Bank. There he was responsible for the implementation of new regulatory requirements into bank management and control system.

Andrej is also an independent member of the supervisory committee in the Czech Financial Benchmark Facility, which is the authorized administrator of PRIBOR under BMR regulation.

KATARINA KOLBENHAYEROVÁ
Legal assistant

Katarina Kolbenhayerová has been working in FINREG PARTNERS law firm since the beginning of 2019. She is a student at the Faculty of Law of the Masaryk University in Brno and she also studied law at the University of Göttingen. Katarina is predominantly focused on fintech and related legal matters. Her domain is the regulation of payment services and AML/CFT. She has experience with the compliance function at one of the leading Czech fintech companies. Before joining FINREG PARTNERS she also worked as a president of AIESEC in Brno and as an intern at the defender of public rights of the Czech Republic.

LUKÁŠ WEISS
Legal assistant

Lukáš Weiss is a student at the Faculty of Law of the Masaryk University in Brno. He also studied law at the Aberystwyth University in Wales. He has been working in FINREG PARTNERS law firm as a legal assistant since the beginning of 2019.  Lukáš focuses on legal aspects of investment and other financial services, MiFID II/MiFIR and IDD. He is interested in blockchain and smart contracts matters and legal aspects of the same.

LUKÁŠ ŠIKEL
Legal assistant

Lukáš Šikel is a student at the Faculty of Law of the Charles University in Prague since 2015. He has been working in FINREG PARTNERS law firm as a legal assistant since 2018. Lukáš has a deep interest in FinTech and in the law firm he helps with research, the preparation of documents and with other activities in respect of the financial services regulation, FinTech and other matters of financial and commercial law. In addition to working in the law firm, Lukáš also works as an editor of legal content of Economia Publishing House, one of the most important Czech publishing houses.

FRANTIŠEK KOUSAL
Legal assistant

František Kousal is studying at the Faculty of Law at the Palacky University in Olomouc. In 2018 he joined as a legal assistant at FINREG PARTNERS law firm. He focuses on commercial and financial law, including investment funds and commercial companies matters. He helps with research and the preparation of legal documents. František is also a member of the student law association Nugis Finem where he manages the project Iurium Wiki and writes commercial law articles.
